Sometime during the month of February 2010, the school nurses will check for spinal deformities (scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis, a side-to-side curve of the spine).  The purpose is to recognize, at the earliest stage, any deviation from normal so that the need for treatment can be determined.  Spinal screening is required annually by law of school children in the state of Alabama in Grades 5-9.

If your child is receiving medical care for a spinal deformity from a physician, please have your child's physician to complete a form in order for your child to be exempted. Please call if you have any questions.
